CLOCKSPRING Centering

CAUTION: Damage to clockspring is possible. If rotating part of clockspring is not positioned properly in relation with steering column and front wheels, clockspring failure may result. Use following procedure to center clockspring.
  1. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove clockspring from steering column (if necessary). Hold clockspring case so it is oriented as it would be when it is installed on steering column. With other hand, rotate clockspring hub clockwise to end of travel. DO NOT over tighten. See Fig 1 .
  2. Rotate clockspring hub counterclockwise about 2 1/2 turns until alignment arrows on clockspring hub label are aligned and uppermost pin in clockspring hub is the oblong pin. Clockspring is now centered. Maintain centered position until clockspring is installed on steering column.
