Removal & Installation (Grand Cherokee)

  1. Remove floor console. See FLOOR CONSOLE . Lift up rear seat and carpet covering parking brake cables. Place a screwdriver through the front cable eyelet and pry back on front cable. See Fig 1.
  2. NOTE: There should be slack in cable if lock out spring is engaged.
  3. Have an assistant pry down lock out spring through hole in side of parking brake lever with a small screwdriver, then slowly release front cable. See Fig 2.
  4. Disconnect parking brake switch wiring connector. Disengage front cable end from parking brake lever. Compress cable retainers using a 13-mm wrench. See Fig 3. Remove cable from parking brake lever bracket.
  5. Remove parking brake lever mounting nuts and console bracket. See Fig 4. Lift lever assembly off mounting studs and pull front cable out of lever bracket. To install, reverse removal procedure. Check parking brake lever operation.
