Disassembly & Reassembly
- Drain brake fluid from caliper. For Grand Cherokee front caliper, place a block of wood over one piston and secure with a "C" clamp. For all models, direct short bursts of low pressure air with a blow gun through the caliper brake hose port to ease piston out. DO NOT blow the piston out with sustained air pressure. Catch piston with padded block of wood to prevent damage to piston and personal injury. For Grand Cherokee front caliper, repeat procedure to remove second piston. Remove piston dust boots and seals from caliper and discard. Remove caliper mounting bolt bushing and boot. See Fig 1.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate piston seal and bore with clean brake fluid. Install NEW seal onto caliper. Install NEW dust boot onto piston. Insert piston into caliper bore and press down to bottom of bore. Seat dust boot in caliper with appropriate installation tool. On Grand Cherokee front caliper, repeat procedure for second piston.
