Cluster Illumination Test
NOTE:
For additional indicator diagnosis, see SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION
table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering column upper and lower covers. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and multifunction switch connector terminal No. 7 (Black wire). See Figure . If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in Black wire between multifunction switch and ground. See INTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for burned out bulbs and replace as necessary. If bulbs are okay, using DVOM, check continuity between ground and instrument panel connector C2 terminal No. 15 (Red wire). See Figure . If continuity is not indicated, go to next step. If continuity is indicated, repair short to ground in Red wire between instrument cluster and multifunction switch. See INTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Using DVOM, check continuity of Red wire between instrument panel connector C2 terminal No. 15 and multifunction switch connector terminal No. 8. If continuity is indicated, use scan tool to diagnose instrument cluster illumination. See appropriate diagnostic procedure under INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in Red wire. See INTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
