Indicator Stays On, Brake System Tests Okay
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect brake warning switch at bottom of master cylinder.
- Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 9 (Gray/White wire). See Figure . If continuity is not indicated, go to next step. If continuity is indicated, repair short to ground in Gray/White wire between instrument cluster and brake warning switch.
- Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Switch is located at base of parking brake lever. Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and parking brake switch terminal (Gray/Black wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Gray/Black wire between brake warning switch and parking brake switch.
- Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and each brake warning switch connector terminal (component side). If continuity is not indicated at either terminal, go to next step. If continuity is indicated at either terminal, replace brake warning switch.
- Ensure parking brake lever is released. Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and parking brake switch terminal (component side). If continuity is not present, replace instrument cluster. If continuity is present, replace parking brake switch.
