Removal & Installation

  1. Remove floor console. See FLOOR CONSOLE . Lift up rear seat and carpet covering parking brake cables. Place a screwdriver through the front cable eyelet and pry back on front cable. See Figure.
  2. NOTE: There should be slack in cable if lock out spring is engaged.
  3. Have an assistant pry down lock out spring through hole in side of parking brake lever with a small screwdriver, then slowly release front cable. See Figure.
  4. Disengage rear cable ends from equalizer. See Figure. Compress cable retainers using a 13-mm wrench, then remove cables from equalizer bracket. See Fig 1.
  5. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Remove brake calipers, caliper anchors and rotors. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER & BRAKE PADS . Remove ABS sensor wiring harness from rear brake cables. See Fig 2.
  6. Remove cable retainer bolts from rear spring pads. Pull cables out of upper suspension arm brackets. See Fig 2. Push cable in and lift up end of cable with a small screwdriver to disengage cable from parking brake actuator. See Fig 3. Remove cable from vehicle.
  7. To install cable, push cable through caliper anchor mounts, then push end of cable strand in to engage cable end to parking brake actuator. Feed other end of cables through body and into equalizer bracket. See Fig 4.
  8. Push cables into upper suspension arm brackets. Install cable retainer bolts to rear spring pads. Install ABS sensor wiring harness to rear brake cables. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
