Retrieving & Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Diagnostic procedures are designed to detect system faults as quickly as possible. Computer system diagnostic fault messages are accessed through Data Link Connector (DLC). See Fig 1
. Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRBIII(R)) scan tool or generic scan tool is used to access information from DLC.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is a 16-pin connector located on left side of steering column, above brake pedal. Turn ignition on. If scan tool display is not blank, go to next step. If scan tool display is blank, check connections, scan tool cable and power at DLC terminal No. 16 (Pink/White wire). Try scan tool on another vehicle.
- Using scan tool, check communication with instrument cluster. If scan tool can communicate with instrument cluster, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to appropriate test under COMMUNICATIONS under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article.
- Using scan tool, select READ DTCs. If any fault messages are displayed, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION
table. If no DTCs exist, but a symptom is present, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION
table. After repairs, ensure problem(s) or failure(s) have been corrected by performing appropriate verification test under VERIFICATION TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article.
