Defogger Control Test
NOTE:
For additional defogger diagnosis, see appropriate procedure under ELECTRONICALLY HEATED SYSTEMS under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - WRANGLER article.
NOTE:
This procedure applies only to hardtop equipped vehicles.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove rear window defogger relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC) located in engine compartment. See Figure . Disconnect rear window defogger switch. See ACCESSORY SWITCH BEZEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and instrument panel connector C2 terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/White wire). See Figure . If continuity is not indicated, go to next step. If continuity is indicated, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and rear defogger switch. See DEFOGGERS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Using DVOM, check continuity of Dark Blue/White wire between instrument panel connector C2 terminal No. 1 and rear defogger switch connector terminal No. 2. If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in Dark Blue/White wire. See DEFOGGERS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and instrument panel connector C2 terminal No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire). If continuity is not indicated, go to next step. If continuity is indicated, repair short to ground in Light Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and rear defogger relay. See DEFOGGERS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Using DVOM, check continuity of Light Blue/White wire between instrument panel connector C2 terminal No. 7 and rear defogger relay connector terminal C2. If continuity is indicated, replace instrument cluster. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in Light Blue/White wire. See DEFOGGERS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
