Indicator Illuminates During Bulb Check, But Not When Parking Brake Is Applied
- Ensure parking brake is released. Turn ignition on. If brake warning light stays on, check and repair hydraulic brake system as necessary. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article in BRAKES. If anti-lock brake indicator does not operate, see ABS INDICATOR LIGHT TEST .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Switch is located at base of parking brake lever. Ensure parking brake lever is applied. Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and parking brake switch terminal (component side). If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, adjust or replace parking brake switch.
- Disconnect brake warning switch at bottom of master cylinder. Check continuity of Gray/Black wire between brake warning switch terminal No. 1 and parking brake switch connector. If continuity is present, repair faulty connection or faulty brake warning switch. If continuity is not present, repair open in Gray/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
