Instrument Cluster

The instrument panel is an electromechanical unit utilizing integrated circuitry and information carried on Programmable Communications Interface (PCI) data bus network for control of all gauges and most indicator lights. The instrument cluster is also referred to as the ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC). Instrument cluster is equipped with circuitry that has self-diagnostic actuator test capability.

Chime warning system and rear window defogger timer are integrated into instrument cluster. Instrument cluster uses a Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) to display odometer, trip odometer and diagnostic information. Instrument cluster is serviced as a complete unit. If an instrument cluster gauge or circuit board is faulty, entire instrument cluster must be replaced. Cluster lens, individual bulbs and odometer knob boot can be serviced.

Instrument cluster gauges include coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, speedometer and tachometer. Instrument cluster indicators may include air bag, ABS, brake, check gauges, cruise control, foglight, full time and part time 4 wheel drive, high beam, low fuel, Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), seat belt, Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS), turn signals and upshift (manual transmission).
