Removal & Installation (Liberty)

NOTE: Prior to performing parking brake system repairs, system must be locked in position (locked out).
  1. Remove floor console. See FLOOR CONSOLE . Lock out parking brake. Pull up on spring until tab on lever passes tab on cable guide. Install a punch in hole on side, then release spring. See Figure. Parking brake system is now locked out.
  2. Remove rear seat. Remove cable saddle bracket. See Fig 1. Disconnect 2 cables from front mount. See Fig 2. Pull carpet forward far enough in the rear to gain access to 2 parking brake cables through the floor. See Fig 1.
  3. Push cables through floor with grommets. Remove primary brake shoe hold down spring and separate shoes to gain access, then disconnect cable from lever on secondary brake shoe. Remove cables from backing plates by using a screwdriver to break off tangs on cable or compress correct size box wrench over tangs. To install, reverse removal procedure. Check parking brake operation.
