Actuator Test

Press odometer knob while turning ignition from OFF to ON position to activate EMIC self-diagnostic actuator test. A single chime will sound to test chime. The number 8 will scroll across the Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) and decimal point of odometer will illuminate to check that all segments of VFD are functional. The VFD will then display the software version number (example: SOF 8.9) followed by the last 6 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). If any faults are set by the instrument cluster, the VFD will display fault information. See FAULT INFORMATION  . If no faults are present, VFD will display "no FAULTS".

The VFD will then turn on/off the following instrument cluster indicators in the following order to check functionality of indicator control.

1. High Beam
2. Brake
3. Seat Belt
4. MIL
5. Check Gauges
6. Low Fuel
7. Full Time
8. Part Time
9. SKIS
10. Cruise
11. Upshift

If a malfunctioning indicator is found, go to appropriate indicator test procedure. If malfunctioning indicator is not found in test procedures, go to SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. The instrument cluster will then perform a needle sweep of each gauge in the following order. The needle will pause at various points on gauge to check functionality of gauge control.

1. Speedometer
2. Fuel Level
3. Coolant Temperature
4. Tachometer
5. Voltage
6. Oil Pressure

If a malfunctioning gauge is found, go to SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Instrument cluster will automatically exit the self-diagnostic actuator test if ignition is turned off or vehicle speed (vehicle moving) is indicated by the PCM over the PCI bus data bus during the test.
