C. Inspect Fuel Filler Inlet Check Valve

IMPORTANT:
To obtain correct test results, the fuel tank must be less than 3/4 full. If the tank is over % full, drain the fuel tank until it is below the 3/4 level.





1. Clamp off the fuel filler recirculation hose just below the check valve in the recirculation hose (Figure 8).

2. Remove the fuel filler cap.

3. Insert the fuel filler probe (Miller Special Tool # 8983) into the fuel filler neck until the knob bottoms on the fuel filler tube.

4. SLOWLY remove the probe from the fuel filler neck.

5. Connect the DRB III(R) (Scan Tool) to the instrument panel connector and then turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

6. On the DRB III(R), select # 1 - DRB STANDALONE.

7. Select # 1 - 1998-2002 DIAGNOSTICS.

8. Select # 1 - ALL (EXCEPT BELOW).

9. Select # 1 - ENGINE.

10. Select # 1 - SYSTEM TESTS.

11. Select # 7 or # 8 - LDP MONITOR TEST.

NOTE:
The selection number depends upon what options the vehicle is equipped with. Be sure to select the LDP Monitor Test.

12. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the LDP monitor test.

NOTE:
The test Will take approximately 3-5 minutes to run.

13. After the test is completed, press ENTER.

14. Press ENTER again to go back to the SYSTEM TEST menu.

15. Press PAGE BACK.

16. Select # 2 - DTCs & RELATED FUNCTIONS.

17. Select # 1 - READ DTCs.

18. Press PAGE BACK for ONE TRIP DETECTION.

19. Press PAGE BACK to read codes. Determine if any evaporative system one-trip faults are stored and then record the fault code if present.

20. Turn engine off and then turn the ignition key to the ON position.

21. Press PAGE BACK.

22. Press YES to erase any DTCs.

23. > If the vehicle had a one trip fault or fault code for LDP System Fault - LARGE Leak Detected, the fuel tank must be replaced. Continue with Section D - Replace Fuel Tank.

> If the vehicle had no faults or only had a SMALL or MEDIUM Leak Detected, no further action is necessary. Continue with Step 24.

24. Remove the clamp from the fuel filler recirculation hose.

25. Install the fuel filler cap.

26. Install the left rear stone shield using the supplied plastic rivets (Figure 1).

27. Install the left rear wheel and tire assembly. Tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft-lbs (136 N.m).

28. Lower the vehicle and return it to the customer.
