Sunshade May Partially Close During Hard Application Of The Service Brakes
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the four sunshade guide blocks and springs.
MODELS:
2002 (WJ) Grand Cherokee
2002 (WG) Grand Cherokee (International Markets)
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILD AFTER JUNE 03, 2002 (MDH 0603XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
During a hard application of the vehicle service brakes, the customer may notice that the sunshade has slid forward from its fully open position to a partially closed position.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer experiences the above condition perform the Repair Procedure
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. From inside the vehicle, fully open the sunroof sunshade.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "RUN" (ON) position.
3. Position the sunroof glass panel so that it is in its half open position.
4. Push the sunshade forward and down until the sunshade tabs clear the sunroof glass panel.
5. Fully open the sunroof glass panel and turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
6. From outside of the vehicle, compress both front spring loaded sunshade guide blocks to release the sunshade from its respective the sunroof track. A flat blade tool may be of assistance.
7. Slide the sunshade forward, while lifting the front of the shade up and through the sunroof opening, until the rear sunshade guide blocks are accessible.
NOTE:
USE CARE NOT TO CREASE THE SUNSHADE PANEL WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING.
8. Disengage the rear guide blocks from the sunroof track.
9. Replace all four sunshade guide blocks and springs. Compress the guide block locking tabs to remove the old block and spring (Fig. 1).
NOTE:
MAKE CERTAIN THAT BOTH GUIDE BLOCK AND SPRING ARE REPLACED.
10. Install the sunshade from outside the vehicle while the sunroof glass panel is in the fully open position.
11. Engage the rear sunshade guide blocks into their respective sunroof track.
12. Push the sunshade back and down through the sunroof opening.
13. Engage the front guide blocks into their respective sunroof track. Position the sunshade so that it is in the half open position.
14. From inside the vehicle, turn the ignition switch to the "RUN" (ON) position. Move the sunroof glass panel so that its is in a half open position.
15. Push the sunshade down and rearward (toward its fully open position) until the sunshade tabs clear the glass.
16. Verify full and proper operation of the sunshade and sunroof glass.
17. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.
