Rear Window Defogger/Heated Mirror Control Diagnosis
WARNING:
Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving steering column, seat and instrument panel components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove rear window defogger relay from junction block. Disconnect rear window defogger switch harness connector. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 4 (Dark Blue/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and rear window defogger switch.
- Check continuity of Dark Blue/White wire between terminal No. 2 at rear window defogger switch harness connector and terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair open in Dark Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and rear window defogger switch.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 3 (Light Blue/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Light Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and rear window defogger relay.
- Check continuity of Light Blue wire between terminal No. 85 at rear window defogger relay and terminal No. 3 at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. If continuity exists, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between instrument cluster and rear window defogger relay.
