Anti-Lock Brake Indicator Test

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving steering column, seat and instrument panel components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
NOTE: If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) warning indicator stays on constantly, a system malfunction exists and trouble code will be stored. For ABS testing, see ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) indicator does not illuminate when ignition is on, inspect fuse No. 9 (10-amp) in junction block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in White/Black wire between junction block and instrument cluster. Replace fuse.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and power side of fuse No. 9. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Dark Blue wire between ignition switch and junction block.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Within 2 seconds check continuity between ground and terminal No. 4 (Light Green/Orange wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C1. Continuity should exist for 2 seconds. If continuity is as specified, replace ABS indicator bulb and retest. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. Remove Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) relay from power distribution center. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 4 (Light Green/Orange wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C1. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Light Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and power distribution center.
  5. Check continuity of Light Green/Orange wire between terminal No. 4 at instrument cluster connector C1 and terminal No. 20 at CAB relay harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . If no continuity exists, repair open in Light Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and power distribution center. If continuity exists, repair ABS concern. See ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
