BRAKE Warning Indicator Does Not Illuminate During Bulb Check, Illuminates When Parking Brake Is Applied

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 6 (Black/Light Green wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C1. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair short to ground in Black/Light Green wire between instrument cluster and ground point. Ground point is located near headlight switch.
  2. Disconnect brake warning pressure switch harness connector. Check continuity of Gray/Black wire between terminal No. 2 at ignition switch harness connector C1 and terminal No. 1 at brake warning pressure switch harness connector. If continuity exists, repair ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CHEROKEE & WRANGLER article. If no continuity exists, repair open in Gray/Black wire between ignition switch and brake warning pressure switch.
