Analog Instrument Panels: Description

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving steering column, seat and instrument panel components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

Vehicle may be equipped with a low-line or high-line instrument cluster. Both instrument clusters have an ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) module that utilizes integrated circuitry and information carried on Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) data bus network to control all gauges and many indicator lights. Instrument cluster also includes chime warning and rear defogger timer control functions. High-line cluster replaces some indicators found in low-line cluster with analog gauges. Gauges include coolant temperature, oil pressure, tachometer and voltmeter. High-line cluster also adds a CHECK GAUGES light and a LOW FUEL warning light.

Both instrument clusters incorporate a Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) for displaying odometer/trip odometer information. Both instrument clusters are equipped with circuitry that has self-diagnostic actuator test capability, which is displayed through VFD on odometer/trip odometer. Instrument cluster is serviced as a complete unit. If instrument cluster gauge or circuit board is faulty, entire instrument cluster must be replaced. Cluster lens, hood and mask, rear housing cover and odometer reset knob boot are replaceable. Individual bulbs and bulb holders can also be serviced.
