DTC P1899: Park/Neutral Switch Stuck In Park Or In Gear (A/T): Testing

  1. Apply parking brake. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor PNP switch input state while moving shift lever from Park to Reverse. If scan tool displays P/N and D/R, go to next step. If scan tool does not display P/N and D/R, go to step  3 .
  2. Turn ignition off. Inspect wiring and connectors between PCM and PNP switch. PCM is located on firewall in right rear corner of engine compartment. PNP switch is located on side of transmission. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, no problems are indicated at this time. Test is complete.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Measure resistance between ground and terminal A6 (Brown/Light Blue wire) at PCM C1 connector while moving shift lever from Park to Reverse. See Figure . If resistance does not change from less than 10 ohms to more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance changes from less than 10 ohms to more than 10 ohms, replace PCM.
  4. If resistance remains at less than 10 ohms at all times while moving shift lever from Park to Reverse, go to next step. If resistance does not remain at less than 10 ohms at all times while moving shift lever from Park to Reverse, go to step  7 .
  5. If resistance does not remain less than 5 ohms at all times while moving shift lever from Park to Reverse, go to next step. If resistance remains at less than 5 ohms at all times while moving shift lever from Park to Reverse, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire between PCM and transmission range sensor.
  6. At this time PNP switch is assumed to be stuck or defective. Replace PNP switch.
  7. Disconnect PNP switch connector. Measure resistance of Brown/Light Blue wire between PNP switch connector and terminal A6 at PCM C1 connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PNP switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Light Blue wire between PCM and PNP switch.
