Instrument Cluster Illumination Test
- This test assumes that all exterior lighting controlled by headlight switch is functioning properly. If exterior lighting is not functioning properly, correct fault(s) before continuing with this test.
- Check and replace illumination bulbs as necessary and retest. If bulbs are okay, remove and inspect fuse No. 12 (10-amp) in fuse box. Fuse box is located behind glove box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, locate and repair cause of blown fuse and retest.
- Using headlight switch, turn parking lights on. Connect voltmeter between ground and power side of fuse No. 12. Observing voltmeter, rotate headlight switch knob counterclockwise to just before interior lights detent, then rotate knob clockwise. Voltage reading should change from battery voltage to zero volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check for open circuit between headlight switch and fuse box. Repair wiring as necessary. If circuit is okay, replace headlight switch and recheck.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn headlight switch off. Remove fuse No. 12 from fuse box. Check continuity between ground and instrument cluster Blue C2 connector terminal No. 3 (Orange wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, locate and repair short to ground in Orange wire.
- Install fuse No. 12 in fuse box. Connect negative battery cable. Using headlight switch, turn parking lights on. Rotate headlight switch knob counterclockwise to just before interior lights detent. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster Blue C2 connector terminal No. 3 (Orange wire). If battery voltage does not exist, locate and repair open circuit. If battery voltage exists, no problem is indicated. Recheck instrument cluster illumination bulb(s) and bulb holders. Repair as necessary.
