30RH, 32RH, 42RE, 44RE & 46RE: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect and lower or remove necessary exhaust components. Remove transmission-to-engine braces.
- Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at transmission. Remove starter. Disconnect and remove Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. CKP sensor is located on top left side of torque converter housing.
- Remove torque converter access cover. If transmission is being removed for overhaul, remove transmission oil pan, drain fluid and reinstall oil pan. Remove skid plate, if necessary.
- Remove transmission dipstick tube bracket bolts and pull tube from transmission. On 4WD models, remove bolt attaching transfer case vent tube to torque converter housing. Place marks on torque converter and flexplate for reassembly reference.
- Rotate crankshaft clockwise and remove torque converter-to-flexplate bolts. Place marks on drive shaft(s) and axle yoke(s) for reassembly reference. Disconnect and remove drive shaft(s).
- Disconnect all wire harness connections and control cables from transmission. On 4WD models, disconnect shift linkage and all wire harness connections from transfer case.
- On all models, support rear of engine with safety stand or jack. Using transmission jack, slightly raise transmission to relieve load on crossmember and supports. Remove crossmember-to-rear transmission support bolts.
- Raise transmission slightly and slide exhaust hanger arm from bracket and remove rear transmission support. Remove crossmember. On 4WD models, disconnect transfer case vent hose and vacuum switch harness.
- Remove transfer case. See the TRANSFER CASE article in TRANSFER CASES section. On all models, remove torque converter housing-to-engine mounting bolts.
- Secure transmission to transmission jack with safety chains. Slide transmission rearward from dowels on cylinder block. Install "C" clamp on edge of torque converter housing to hold torque converter in place. Lower transmission and remove from vehicle.
