Minimum Airflow Rate (3.3L & 3.5L)

  1. Ensure engine is at operating temperature (cooling fan cycles on and off at least once). Turn engine off. Turn off all lights and accessories. Disconnect PCV hose from intake manifold nipple and cap off PCV valve.
  2. Disconnect idle purge hose from throttle body. Using a piece of hose, attach Air Metering Fitting (6457) to purge nipple at throttle body. Orifice size is .125" (3 mm). Connect Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB) to vehicle. Start engine and allow it to idle for at least one minute.
  3. Using DRB, access MINIMUM AIRFLOW IDLE SPEED. The Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor should fully close, and idle spark advance should be fixed. Ensure proper RPM is displayed on DRB.
  4. Check minimum airflow rate. See V6 MINIMUM AIRFLOW RATE SPECIFICATIONS table. If minimum airflow rate is more than specification, use DRB to check ISC motor operation. If minimum airflow rate is less than specification, clean throttle body and repeat test procedure. If minimum airflow rate is still less than specification, replace throttle body. If minimum airflow rate is correct, turn engine off, and disconnect all test equipment.
