Ignition Coil (2.0L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Plymouth Laser and 1994 Eagle Talon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect ignition coil connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure primary coil resistance between ignition coil terminals No. 2 and 3. Perform TEST 1. See Fig 1 . Also, measure resistance between ignition coil connector terminals No. 1 and 3. Primary resistance should be .70-.86 ohm at 68°F (20°C).
  2. With ignition coil connector still disconnected, measure secondary coil resistance. Measure resistance between high-voltage terminals for cylinders No. 1 and 4, and between high-voltage terminals for cylinders No. 2 and 3. Perform TEST 2. See Fig 1 .
  3. Secondary resistance should be 11,300-15,300 ohms. Replace ignition coil if it does not test as described.
