Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

- Ensure steering wheel position is half turn (180 degrees) to right (clockwise) of center. Ensure turn signal lever is in neutral position. Position clockspring onto steering shaft and push down on rotor until clockspring is fully seated on steering column.
- Install clockspring screws. Tighten screw near ignition switch halo light first. Tighten clockspring screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE at the end of this article. If clockspring centering adjustment is disturbed, adjust clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERING under ADJUSTMENTS before installing steering wheel.
- Connect clockspring wiring connectors. Ensure wiring is routed properly. Install steering column shrouds. Install tilt wheel release lever. Install steering wheel, ensuring flats on steering wheel hub align with formations on inside of clockspring.
- Pull Yellow horn wire through smaller round hole in steering wheel. Pull clockspring and cruise control wires through larger hole in steering wheel. Connect Yellow horn wire and air bag wire (squib wire) to air bag module. Install air bag module.
- Tighten air bag module screws to specification. Connect cruise control wires to switches. Install switches. DO NOT connect negative battery cable yet. Perform system operation check to ensure air bag system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
