Crankshaft & Main Bearings

All upper main bearings contain oil grooves; lower bearings in main bearing cap assembly do not have oil grooves. Crankshaft end play is controlled by thrust bearings on No. 3 main bearing journal. Install main bearing cap assembly with arrow toward front (timing belt end) of engine. Coat bolts with oil before installing. Tighten bolts to specification in sequence. See Fig 1.
