Test TC-34A - Flex Fuel Sensor Volts Low (DTC 64)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Plymouth Acclaim and 1994 Dodge Spirit. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION DIRECTORY TABLE  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. Using DRB, read flexible fuel sensor voltage. If voltage is less than .2 volt, go to step 4). If voltage is more than .2 volt, while observing DRB, wiggle wiring harness from flexible fuel sensor to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If voltage changed, repair wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2  .
  2. If voltage did not change, condition required to set trouble code is not present at this time. The FLEX FUEL SENSOR VOLTS LOW trouble code sets if flexible fuel sensor voltage is less than .5 volt for .157 seconds. Possible causes are: short to ground in flexible fuel sensor Black/Red wire, failed flexible fuel sensor or failed PCM. Go to next step.
  3. Inspect all related wiring and connectors. Repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If no problems were found with wiring and connectors, see INACTIVE TROUBLE CODE CONDITION  . Perform TEST VER-2.
  4. Disconnect flexible fuel sensor connector. Sensor is located on front of fuel tank. Using DRB, read flexible fuel sensor voltage. If voltage is more than one volt, replace flexible fuel sensor. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than one volt, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector.
  5. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between Black/Red wire and Black/Light Blue wire on harness side of flexible fuel sensor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Black/Red wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, put DRB in ohmmeter mode.
  6. Using DRB, check resistance of flexible fuel sensor connector Black/Red wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Red wire. Perform TEST VER-2  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
