Test TC-33A - Flex Fuel Sensor Volts High (DTC 64)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Plymouth Acclaim and 1994 Dodge Spirit. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION DIRECTORY TABLE
. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Using DRB, read flexible fuel sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, go to step 4). If voltage is less than 4.5 volts, while observing DRB, wiggle wiring harness from flexible fuel sensor to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If voltage changed, repair wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If voltage did not change, condition required to set trouble code is not present at this time. The FLEX FUEL SENSOR VOLTS HIGH trouble code sets if flexible fuel sensor voltage is more than 4.5 volts for .157 seconds. Possible causes are: open flexible fuel sensor Black/Red wire, open flexible fuel sensor Black/Light Blue wire or failed flexible fuel sensor. Go to next step.
- Inspect all related wiring and connectors. Repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2 . If no problems were found with wiring and connectors, see INACTIVE TROUBLE CODE CONDITION . Perform TEST VER-2.
- Disconnect flexible fuel sensor connector. Sensor is located on front of fuel tank. Connect a jumper wire between Black/Red wire and Black/Light Blue wire on flexible fuel sensor connector. Using DRB, read flexible fuel sensor voltage.
- If voltage is less than one volt, replace flexible fuel sensor. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than one volt, move jumper wire from flexible fuel sensor connector Black/Light Blue wire to an engine ground.
- Using DRB, read flexible fuel sensor voltage. If voltage is less than one volt, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire. If voltage is more than one volt, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector.
- Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Using DRB, check resistance of flexible fuel sensor connector Black/Red wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Red wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
