Test NS-5A - Inspecting Fuel Pump

- Using DRB, stop actuation test. If vehicle is an AN body, go to TEST NS-5C . If vehicle is not an AN body, using DRB, actuate Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay. Touch fuel pump relay. If fuel pump relay does not pulsate when actuated, go to TEST NS-5B. If fuel pump relay pulsates when actuated, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect fuel pump relay. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Using DRB, check voltage on fuel pump relay connector Red/White wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in appropriate wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, install a known good relay. Attempt to start engine. If engine started, replace original relay. Perform TEST VER-2 .
- If engine did not start, install original relay. Disconnect fuel pump harness connector. Ensure fuel pump connector has clean and tight connections. Turn ignition on. Using DRB, actuate fuel system. While still actuating, put DRB in voltmeter mode. Using DRB, check voltage on fuel pump connector Dark Green/Black wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Green/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, stop actuation test.
- Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Using DRB, check resistance of fuel pump connector Black wire (fuel pump ground). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace fuel pump. Perform TEST VER-1.
