Impact Sensors

Three impact sensors are used. On all models except Dakota and Pickup, two impact sensors are mounted on headlight carrier surface on left and right sides of vehicle. ACM contains the third impact sensor, which is called the safing sensor. Impact sensors are inertia switches which complete an electrical circuit when a front-end collision creates sufficient "G" force. For air bag to deploy, safing sensor and at least one impact sensor must activate at same time.
