Section 28 (Steering Column Switches): Testing: Notes

WARNING: Disable air bag system (if equipped) before attempting any repairs to steering column and/or components. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT Section. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component or circuit on steering column without first disconnecting air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector at base of steering column. After any repair, turn ignition on from passenger side of vehicle in case of accidental air bag deployment.

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in the GENERAL INFORMATION Section before disconnecting battery.
