- Remove ashtray or courtesy light from rear of center console. Pull carpet away from sides of console to gain access to self-adjuster. Pull on equalizer output cable to wind up spring (requires more than 30-lb. effort). See Fig 1. Continue pulling until self-adjuster lock-out pawl is positioned about midway on self-adjuster sector.
- Rotate lock-out pawl into self-adjuster sector by turning Allen screw clockwise. Rotating lock-out device requires very little effort. DO NOT force, or failure of lock-out device will occur. Adjust rear brakes before adjusting parking brake. On drum-in-hat type rear disc brake, adjust shoe diameter to 6.75" (171.5 mm). Ensure operating cables are properly assembled to equalizer bracket before adjusting cable.NOTE: Parking brake lever can be in any position when self-adjuster is released.
- Using a 7/32" Allen wrench, turn hex socket adjuster on parking brake lever assembly counterclockwise approximately 15 degrees. While adjuster is turned, self-adjuster release will make a loud snapping noise followed by a more "felt" than "heard" detent. Very slight effort is required to seat lock-out arm into detent. Follow through to detent is important to prevent lock-out rod from rattling. Cycle lever to position cables. Rear wheels should rotate freely.
