Retrieving Diagnostic Fault Messages

- Ensure engine will start. If engine fails to start, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section for diagnostic procedure.
- If engine starts, turn ignition off. Connect DRB to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on passenger side of engine compartment, at firewall. Retrieve diagnostic fault messages using DRB manufacturer's instructions. Note diagnostic fault message display and reset counter display.
- Reset counter indicates number of engine starts since fault message was set. This helps determine if a hard or intermittent diagnostic fault message exists.
- If reset counter shows less than 3 engine starts, it indicates a hard code. If reset counter shows 3 or more engine starts, an intermittent code exists.
- Using DRB, display all diagnostic fault messages. Proceed to appopriate test in DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
NOTE:
Only diagnostic fault messages applying to TCC solenoid, overdrive solenoid and transmission temperature sensor diagnosis are listed. If other diagnostic fault messages are displayed, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES

NOTE:
On Pickup with 5.9L Diesel, if no diagnostic fault message exists for the overdrive solenoid, but problem exists, perform TEST NTC-2A
