Parking Brake (Drum Brakes)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Plymouth Sundance, 1994 Plymouth Acclaim, 1994 Dodge Spirit, 1994 Dodge Shadow, and 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Back off parking brake cable adjustment until slack. Clean and lubricate cable threads. Using Adjuster (C-3784) and thin screwdriver inserted in brake adjusting hole to disengage adjusting lever, rotate star wheel to obtain light brake shoe-to-drum contact.
  2. Back off star wheel until no drag is felt. Adjust parking brake cable adjuster nut until slight drag is felt while rotating rear wheels. Loosen adjusting nut until wheels just turn freely, then back off nut 2 full turns. Apply and release parking brake several times to ensure rear wheels do not drag.
