Test 55E - Headlamps & Parking Lamps Do Not Turn Off

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Ensure headlamp switch is in OFF position. Using DRB, read AUTO headlamp switch status. If DRB does not display ULTRALIGHT ON, go to step 3). If DRB displays ULTRALIGHT ON, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect headlamp switch connector from behind switch. Using DRB, read AUTO headlamp switch status. If DRB does not display ULTRALIGHT ON, replace headlamp switch. If DRB displays ULTRALIGHT ON, repair short to battery voltage in Yellow wire.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Gray connector. BCM is located behind right kick panel. If headlamps go out, go to step 6). If headlamps do not go out, go to next step
  4. Disconnect headlamp time delay relay from junction block. SeeFigure . Junction block is located behind end cover, on left side of instrument panel. If headlamps do not go out, repair short to battery voltage in Yellow wire. If headlamps go out, go to next step.
  5. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of headlamp delay relay connector terminal "E" (Red/Dark Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Red/Dark Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace headlamp delay relay.
  6. If parking lamps go out, replace BCM. If parking lamps do not go out, remove parking lamp relay. Parking lamp relay is located behind dash, below parking lamp switch. If parking lamps do not go out, repair short to battery voltage in Black/Yellow wires. If parking lamps go out, go to next step.
  7. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of parking lamp relay connector terminal "D" (Black/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace parking lamp relay.
