Section 198 (Air Bag Restraint System - "A" & "P" Body): Servicing

Air bag system should be serviced every 3 years or 30,000 miles. The following items should be checked.

Check all air bag system components for damage or deterioration. Replace air bag module if air bag module housing shows signs of physical damage or abuse.
Ensure both front impact sensors are properly installed on radiator closure panel. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper operation. Turn ignition switch to ON position. AIR BAG warning light should illuminate.
If AIR BAG warning light does not illuminate, or if AIR BAG warning light illuminates but fails to go out after 12 seconds, a system malfunction exists. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
