Test 53D - Diagnosing Traveler Distance Or Mileage Problem

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR  IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB, read PCM MONITOR. If DRB does not display ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to TEST 75A. If DRB displays ACTIVE ON THE BUS, go to next step.
  2. Using DRB, read engine information. While moving throttle, observe TPS on DRB display. If TPS percent does not change, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS. If TPS percent changes, go to next step.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine. Place gear selector in Drive position (1st gear on manual transmission). Using DRB, read engine information. While tires rotate, observe VSS on DRB display. If VSS signal increases, circuit is operational. Retest system. If VSS signal does not increase, see VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS.
