Test 39A - Repairing Brake Warn Lamp & Parking Brake SW Problems

. Perform TEST VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Using DRB, stop sequential lamp test. Using DRB, read park brake switch status. Ensure parking brake lever has no binding or interference. If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : OPEN, go to step 4). If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect parking brake switch connector, check and clean connections. If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : OPEN, replace parking brake switch. If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : OPEN, go to next step.
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural connector. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at BCM Natural connector terminal No. 9 (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Black/White wire between BCM Natural connector and parking brake switch connector for short to ground. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace BCM.
- If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : OPEN in step 1), depress parking brake. If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : CLOSED, go to TEST 39B. If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : CLOSED, go to next step.
- Disconnect parking brake switch. Check and clean connections. Connect jumper wire between parking brake switch connector Black/White wire and ground. If DRB displays PRK BRAKE : CLOSED, replace parking brake switch. If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : CLOSED, go to next step.
- Access BCM, located behind right kick panel. With connectors connected, connect jumper wire between BCM Natural connector terminal No. 9 (Black/White wire) and ground. If DRB displays PRKBRAKE: CLOSED, repair open Black/White wire between BCM Natural connector and parking brake switch connector. If DRB does not display PRK BRAKE : CLOSED, replace BCM.
