Section 189 (Air Bag Restraint System): Servicing

Air bag system should be serviced every 3 years or 30,000 miles. The following items should be checked.
- Check all air bag system components for damage or deterioration. Replace air bag module if air bag module housing shows signs of physical damage or abuse.
- Ensure both front impact sensors are properly installed on radiator closure panel. See Figure or Figure . Repair as necessary. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper operation. Turn ignition switch to ON position. AIR BAG warning light should illuminate.
- If AIR BAG warning light does not illuminate, or if AIR BAG warning light illuminates but fails to go out after 12 seconds, a system malfunction exists. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
