Impact Sensors

Three impact sensors are used. On all models except Grand Cherokee, two impact sensors are mounted on left and right side of radiator closure panel behind headlights. See Fig 1 . On Grand Cherokee, two impact sensors are mounted on left and right side of radiator closure panel behind grille opening reinforcement assembly. See Fig 1 . On all models, third sensor, called safing sensor, is located inside ASDM. See Figure . Impact sensors are inertia switches which complete an electrical circuit when a front-end collision creates sufficient "G" force. For air bag to deploy, safing sensor and at least one impact sensor must activate at the same time.
