Air Bag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM)
On all models except Grand Cherokee, ASDM is located behind center console at center of instrument panel. See Fig 1 . On Grand Cherokee, ASDM is located under center console near parking brake lever assembly. See Fig 1 . Safing sensor is an integral part of ASDM.
ASDM contains a back-up power supply, capable of deploying air bags for up to 2 minutes after battery disconnect or loss of vehicle battery power.
The ASDM monitors critical input and output circuits within the air bag system, making sure they are operating correctly. Some circuits are tested continuously; others are checked only under certain conditions. ASDM provides information about air bag system through AIR BAG warning light and ASDM data link connector. A fault code (message) is stored whenever AIR BAG warning light stays on or if light is activated for 12 seconds or more.
