Fuel Gauge Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector. If gauge needle moves to low end of scale, go to next step. If needle does not move to low end of scale, go to step 4).
  2. Install a jumper wire from sending unit wiring to ground. If gauge needle moves to high end, replace sending unit. If needle does not move to high end, remove jumper and go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove dash pad and cluster assembly. Disconnect printed circuit connector.
  4. Probe cavity D11 of printed circuit connector.Check for continuity to ground. If there is no continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, repair short in circuit.
  5. Still probing D11 of printed circuit connector, check for continuity to sending unit wiring connector. If there is continuity, replace gauge. If there is no continuity, repair open in circuit.
