Coolant Temperature Gauge Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch on with engine off. Disconnect coolant temperature sending unit connector (located at front of engine). If needle moves to low end of gauge scale, go to next step. If needle does not move to low end of scale, go to step 3).
  2. Install a jumper wire from sending unit to ground. If the gauge needle moves to high end of scale, replace sending unit. If needle does not move to high end of scale, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove dash pad and cluster assembly. Disconnect printed circuit connector.
  4. Probe cavity D11 of printed circuit connector. Check for continuity to ground. If there is no continuity, go to the next step. If there is continuity, repair short in circuit. See Figure .
  5. Still probing cavity D11 of printed circuit, check for continuity to sending unit wiring connector. If there is continuity, replace gauge. If there is no continuity, repair open in circuit.
