Tachometer Inoperative

  1. With engine running, check for tachometer signal at pin No. 43 of PCM. See TACHOMETER CALIBRATION  . If signal is correct, go to next step. If signal is not correct, replace PCM. See Fig 2 .
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug PCM connector. Remove left instrument cluster bezel and main cluster assembly. Disconnect cluster connector.
  3. Probe cavity 12 of cluster connector. Check for continuity to ground. If there is no continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, repair short circuit as required.
  4. Still probing cavity 12 of cluster connector, check for continuity to cavity 43 of PCM connector. If there is continuity, replace tachometer. If there is no continuity, repair open circuit as required.
