Speedometer/Odometer Operation

  1. Perform Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) test. See test in the appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If VSS is good, go to next step. If VSS tests bad, replace VSS.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Unplug vehicle speed sensor, PCM and daytime running light module connectors. Remove left instrument cluster bezel and main cluster assembly. Disconnect cluster connector.
  3. Probe cavity No. 13 of cluster connector. Check for continuity to ground. If there is no continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, repair short circuit as required.
  4. Still probing cavity No. 13 of cluster connector, check for continuity to cavity No. 1 of VSS connector. If there is continuity, replace speedometer/odometer. If there is no continuity, repair open circuit as required.
