Oil Pressure Gauge & Sending Unit

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect oil pressure sending unit connector located near ignition distributor. If gauge reads to high end of scale, go to next step. If gauge does not read to high end of scale, go to step 3).
  2. Install a jumper wire from sending unit wiring to ground. If gauge reads low end of scale, replace sending unit. If gauge does not read to low end of scale, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery connection. Remove center cluster bezel and gauge package cluster assembly. Disconnect cluster connector. See Figure .
  4. Probe cavity No. 9 of cluster connector. Check for continuity to ground. If there is no continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, repair short circuit as required.
  5. Still probing cavity No. 9 of cluster connector, check for continuity to sending unit connector. If there is continuity, replace gauge. If there is no continuity, repair open circuit as required.
NOTE: Prior to testing, confirm that problem is with gauge and not with incorrect speedometer pinion, axle ratio or tire size.
