Coolant Temperature Gauge Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Disconnect coolant temperature sending unit connector. Sending unit is located near left rear corner of cylinder head. If gauge needle moves to low end of scale, go to next step. If needle does not move to low end of scale, go to step 3).
  2. Install a jumper wire from sending unit wiring to ground. If gauge needle does not move to high end of scale, remove wire and go to next step. If gauge needle moves to high end of scale, replace sending unit.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster bezel and cluster assembly. Disconnect gauge cluster connector "A". See Figure .
  4. Probe cavity A1 of cluster connector "A". Check for continuity to ground. If there is no continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, repair short in circuit.
  5. Still probing cavity A1 of cluster connector "A", check for continuity to sending unit wiring connector. If there is continuity, replace gauge. If there is no continuity, repair open in circuit.
