Test 59A - Headlamps Will Not Turn On

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.

NOTE: This test is only valid for vehicles equipped with compass/mini-trip computer.

Turn ignition on. Turn headlamp switch on. If headlamps do not operate by headlamp switch, see appropriate INSTRUMENT PANEL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT section as listed below. If headlamps operate by headlamp switch, go to next step.

- INSTRUMENT PANEL (for Wrangler)
- INSTRUMENT PANEL (for Grand Cherokee)
Turn headlamp switch off. Turn ignition off. If headlamps remain on for 60 seconds and then go off, headlamp system is okay at this time. If headlamps do not remain on for 60 seconds and then go off, go to next step.
Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural connector. BCM is located behind left side knee panel. Check, clean and repair connections as needed. If connections are okay, go to next step.
Connect a jumper wire between chassis ground and BCM Natural connector terminal No. 20 (Orange/White wire). If headlamps do not operate, repair open Orange/White wire. If headlamps operate, replace BCM.
