Test NS-9B - Repairing No Crank Condition
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
in this article. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
section at the end of this article.
- Disconnect starter relay. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on starter relay connector, ground circuit (Black/White wire). If resistance measures more than 5 ohms, repair open in the Brown/Orange, Brown/Yellow wire or Black/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If resistance is less than 5 ohms, put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on starter relay connector, fused battery voltage circuit (Red/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black wire or Red/White wire. Perform TEST VER-1 .
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, use an external voltmeter to check voltage on starter relay connector, ignition switch output circuit (Yellow/Dark Blue wire). Hold ignition switch in RUN position while observing voltmeter. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Yellow wire or Yellow/Dark Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-1
. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.WARNING: Engine may crank in following step. Keep away from moving engine parts.
- Ensure transmission is in Neutral and parking brake is set. Briefly connect a jumper wire between starter relay connector, fused battery voltage circuit (Red/White wire) and ignition switch output circuit (Yellow/Dark Blue wire). Go to TEST NS-9C .
