Test NS-5B - Inspecting Fuel Pump
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Wrangler and 1995 Jeep Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform TEST NS-5A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
at beginning of article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump relay and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on fused ignition switch output circuit at fuel pump relay connector terminal "A" (Dark Blue wire on Cherokee, White/Yellow wire on Wrangler. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in ignition switch output circuit.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance across fuel pump relay terminals No. 85 and 86. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION at beginning of article. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, replace fuel pump relay. If resistance is less than 100 ohm, repair open in Dark Blue/Yellow wire from relay connector to splice.
