Test Dr-11A - Testing Injectors (Code 41)

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  1. Using DRB, erase faults. Start engine and idle for more than one minute. Read faults. If Code 41 is displayed again, go to step 3). If Code 41 is not displayed again, read faults and observe engine performance while wiggling injector wiring harness.
  2. If engine performance changes or Code 41 is set, repair wiring harness where wiggling caused code to set or engine performance to change. Perform TEST VER-2 . If engine performance does not change or Code 41 is not set, perform TEST DR-15A .
  3. Disconnect Idle Speed Control (ISC) actuator 6-pin connector. Using DRB, actuate injector No. 1. If engine RPM drops, go to step 9). If engine RPM does not drop, turn ignition off. Disconnect injector No. 1 connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on injector No. 1 connector Yellow/Blue wire. If voltage is more than 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 8 volts, go to step 5).
  4. On turbo vehicles, go to step 7). On non-turbo vehicles, measure voltage at injector No. 1 connector Yellow/Black wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 1. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Yellow/Black wire between injector No. 1 and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Control Unit (ECU) 18-pin connector. Measure resistance between fuel injector No. 1 connector Yellow/Blue wire and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  6. Measure resistance of Yellow/Blue wire between ECU 18-pin connector terminal No. 51 and injector No. 1 connector. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open circuit in Yellow/Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace ECU. Perform TEST VER-2.
  7. Measure voltage at injector No. 1 connector Black/Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 1. Perform TEST VER-2 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, with fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Black/Yellow wire between fuel injector and fuel injector resistor connector. Perform TEST VER-2.
  8. With fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace fuel injector resistor assembly. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red wire between fuel injector resistor connector and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  9. Disconnect Idle Speed Control (ISC) actuator 6-pin connector. Using DRB, actuate injector No. 2. If engine RPM drops, go to step 15). If engine RPM does not drop, turn ignition off. Disconnect injector No. 2 connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on injector No. 2 connector Yellow/Black wire. If voltage is more than 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 8 volts, go to step 11).
  10. On turbo vehicles, go to step 13). On non-turbo vehicles, measure voltage at injector No. 2 connector Yellow/Black wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 2. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Yellow/Black wire between injector No. 2 and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Control Unit (ECU) 18-pin connector. Measure resistance between fuel injector No. 2 connector Yellow/Black wire and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  12. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between ECU 18-pin connector terminal No. 51 and injector No. 2 connector. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open circuit in Yellow/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace ECU. Perform TEST VER-2.
  13. Measure voltage at injector No. 2 connector Black/Blue wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 2. Perform TEST VER-2 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, with fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Black/Blue wire between fuel injector and fuel injector resistor connector. Perform TEST VER-2.
  14. With fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace fuel injector resistor assembly. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red wire between fuel injector resistor connector and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  15. Disconnect Idle Speed Control (ISC) actuator 6-pin connector. Using DRB, actuate injector No. 3. If engine RPM drops, go to step 21). If engine RPM does not drop, turn ignition off. Disconnect injector No. 3 connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on injector No. 3 connector Light Green wire. If voltage is more than 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 8 volts, go to step 17).
  16. On turbo vehicles, go to step 19). On non-turbo vehicles, measure voltage at injector No. 3 connector Yellow/Green wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 3. Perform TEST VER-2 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Yellow/Green wire between injector No. 3 and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  17. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Control Unit (ECU) 18-pin connector. Measure resistance between fuel injector No. 3 connector Light Green wire and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  18. Measure resistance of Light Green wire between ECU 18-pin connector terminal No. 60 and injector No. 3 connector. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open circuit in Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace ECU. Perform TEST VER-2.
  19. Measure voltage at injector No. 3 connector Black/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 3. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, with fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 5 (Black/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Black/White wire between fuel injector and fuel injector resistor connector. Perform TEST VER-2.
  20. With fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace fuel injector resistor assembly. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red wire between fuel injector resistor connector and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  21. Disconnect Idle Speed Control (ISC) actuator 6-pin connector. Using DRB, actuate injector No. 4. If engine RPM drops, perform TEST DR-15A . If engine RPM does not drop, turn ignition off. Disconnect injector No. 4 connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on injector No. 4 connector Light Green/White wire. If voltage is more than 8 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 8 volts, go to step 23).
  22. On turbo vehicles, go to step 25). On non-turbo vehicles, measure voltage at injector No. 4 connector Yellow/White wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 4. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Yellow/White wire between injector No. 2 and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  23. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Electronic Control Unit (ECU) 18-pin connector. Measure resistance between fuel injector No. 4 connector Light Green/White wire and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  24. Measure resistance of Light Green/White wire between ECU 18-pin connector terminal No. 61 and injector No. 4 connector. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, repair open circuit in Light Green/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace ECU. Perform TEST VER-2 .
  25. Measure voltage at injector No. 4 connector Black/Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace injector No. 4. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, with fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 6 (Black/Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Black/Red wire between fuel injector and fuel injector resistor connector. Perform TEST VER-2.
  26. With fuel injector resistor connected, backprobe fuel injector resistor connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace fuel injector resistor assembly. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open circuit in Red wire between fuel injector resistor connector and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
